About the Event

You're probably wondering why there are different prices based on your self-identifying racial group. We all know that race is a social construct, but there are serious implications to these identities - especially as it relates to your pay. This brunch will focus on raising awareness on the pay equity gap for women by setting the prices for the brunch at the percentage rate diverse women make as reported by the American Association of University Women in the Indy Star. For every dollar a white man made in central Indiana in the year 2017, a central Indiana woman made $0.79. However, when we break this down by race, there is a deeper story to tell.

By leading equity through practice, we hope to have robust conversations on women's pay equity and its impact and connection to various aspects of women’s issues. Every attendee will walk away with a gift bag filled with women-owned products created right here in Central Indiana. Come join other women in equity in an intimate environment and walk away with a network of support. We can't wait to be in community with you!

*Not everyone subscribes to racial categories or wants to be boxed into one racial group. These categories are only to help illuminate the broader issue around pay equity based on race. If you do not feel comfortable electing a racial category, please select Central Indiana Women, which is the average pay equity gap for all Central Indiana Women compared to the average Central Indiana Man's $1.

NOVEMBER BRUNCH TOPIC

This WE Brunch event is centered around Mentorship, Sponsorship and the Power of Leveraging Your Network. Women – and leaders of all genders – must advocate for themselves if they want to move their careers forward. But women in particular face leadership challenges that are embedded within larger systems. As a historically marginalized group, women often face exclusion based on their intersecting social identities, including gender, race, class, age, religion, sexual orientation, family/caregiver status, immigration status, etc.

Having a network of mentors and sponsors provides an opportunity for growth and development in a very unique and personal way. Formal mentoring programs can be incredibly useful. From making new contacts, receiving new opportunities and being coached to jump into management, entrepreneurship or on to a new board appointment, mentors play a key role in the success of professional women. Likewise, sponsorship - spending one’s social capital or using one’s influence to advocate for a protege - can be an invaluable way to accelerate your career. Many times women already have champions in their networks but aren’t sure how to leverage who they know and how they can help.

We invite you to come together with our network on November 13th to learn from professionals who manage mentorship programs, mentors and mentees, and strong sponsors of other women.
