The Inclusion Academy is open to anyone who is interested in expanding their understanding of diversity, equity and inclusion in a small group setting. This online series will be particularly beneficial to folks who want to create inclusive work environments and who supervise people different from them. Each live session will be 2 hours long with no more than 15 participants for meaningful interactions. You can select from 2 different dates and times that best suit your schedule. Week 1: SOCIALIZATION AND IMPACT
Session will help participants understand how messaging has impacted outcomes. Participants will see how schemas have been established and reinforced that contribute to bias. We will begin to identify their limiting thoughts and contemplate how to see beyond those limiting thoughts.
Week 2: RACE AND POWER
Session will include information about the inception of a racial hierarchy in the United States. Participants will look at how power is included in this hierarchy. The session will then discuss how racism impacts people in systems within which we all interact.
Week 3: SUPERIORITY AND INFERIORITY
Session will cover how racism impacts everyone on a more individual (compared to systemic) basis. Participants will look at how racism affects their everyday lives. The session will lead participants through a power analysis and we will assess our comfort with our action or inaction.
Week 4: EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE AND D&I
Session will cover how the ability to be aware and understand your own emotions has a positive impact on those around you. The participants will focus on self reflection, self-soothing, and empathy. We will work towards a greater understanding of what it means to lead well with others.
Week 5: GENERATIONS AND COMMUNICATION
Session will cover how people interact and communicate. The participants will receive information about people of different generations. Time will be spent to explore factors that could have potentially impacted people of different generations. We will look at how these differences could cause challenges when communicating and interacting.
Week 6: ACTION AND IMPLEMENTATION
Session will brainstorm the impact of the sharing and learning from the past 5 sessions. Participants will have dialogue on how they plan to incorporate their new learning. Session will be action focused and participants will walk away with an action plan.
